    1

    Kathmandu to Pokhara (By flight or Bus), the city of Lakes, adventures and serenity.

    The journey begins at Semera the capital of Afar Region followed by a drive across the volcanic plains toward the Erta Ale volcano. In the late afternoon, you will trek to the volcano's summit (approx. 1 hour hike). This evening is spent camping near the rim, observing the hypnotic, continuously active lava lake, one of only a handful in the world

    2

    Ertale - Hamedela

    Trek back down from Erta Ale at dawn and drive to the village of Hamed Ela. The main focus of the day is an excursion to Dallol, the highly volatile geothermal field that marks one of the lowest points on the planet (approx. −125 meters below sea level). You will explore its incredible, multi-colored mineral deposits, bubbling sulfur springs, and vast salt plains. Afterward, witness the traditional salt extraction process at Lake Assale and watch the iconic Afar camel caravans moving their trade across the desert. Overnight camping in Hamed Ela.

    Hamedela - Hawzien

    The morning involves driving out of the Denakil Depression. This day features a spectacular and demanding geographic transition, ascending from the desert floor (around m b.s.l.) up to the Tigray Plateau, reaching altitudes well over meters above sea level in a single day. This dramatic shift brings you from scorching desert to the cooler climate of the highlands. You will drive via Abala to the Gheralta region, checking into your accommodation in the town of Hawzien for overnight rest.

    Geralta Mountains

    Dedicate the day to exploring the most dramatic of the Gheralta rock-hewn churches. The focus is on Abune Yemata Guh, a church renowned for being situated in a sheer cliff face. Reaching it requires a challenging, thrilling ascent involving rock climbing (with local guides providing assistance and ropes) and traversing a narrow ledge with a massive drop. Following this adventure, you will visit the large, complex church of Mariam Korkor (often accessed via a challenging but rewarding hike), which offers incredible panoramic views across the Tigray valley and features large interior pillars and ancient frescoes

    Hawzien - Mekele - Addis

    In the morning, visit two of the most significant and accessible rock-hewn churches. First, explore Debre Tsion Monastery (also known as Abune Abraham), famous for its remarkable architectural style, impressive rock pillars, and rare 15th-century artifacts. Next, visit Abrha Atisbha, often cited as one of Tigray’s most famous and largest churches, known for its majestic interior, carved ceiling, and intricate wall paintings dedicated to the twin kings who introduced Christianity to Ethiopia. After lunch, you will drive to Mekele and transfer to the airport for your evening flight back to Addis Ababa, concluding your intensive adventure
