    01

    Arrival in Bahir Dar & Lake Tana Discoveries

    You will take a short morning flight from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar. Upon arrival, we will drive directly to the magnificent Blue Nile Falls, known locally as "Tis Abay" or "Smoking Water." Feel the spray on your face as you witness this thunderous curtain of water. In the afternoon, a serene boat trip on Lake Tana will take you to the Zeghe Peninsula. Here, you will visit the medieval monastery of Ura Kidane Mihret (often grouped with Betre Mariam), famous for its vibrant frescoes. A peaceful walk through the beautiful, lush forest connecting the peninsula's monasteries awaits. On our return journey to your hotel, we will pass by the point where the Blue Nile River begins its long journey from Lake Tana, offering a chance to spot hippos basking in the shallows.

    Journey to the Roof of Africa – Simien Mountains

    After breakfast, we begin our scenic drive towards the Simien Mountains National Park. En route, we will stop to explore the Royal Enclosure in Gondar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called "Africa's Camelot," where you will be captivated by the 17th-century castles and palaces. Continuing our ascent, we arrive at the Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO site renowned for its dramatic landscapes. You will be staying at a lodge located inside the park itself. After settling in, we will take an exploratory walk in the immediate vicinity of the lodge, allowing you to acclimatize to the high altitude while enjoying stunning, up-close views of the escarpments and likely encounters with troops of gelada baboons.

    03

    Deep Exploration of the Simien Highlands

    Today is dedicated to fully immersing yourself in the grandeur of the Simien Mountains. We will embark on a more substantial exploration of the park, with the possibility of a walk lasting three or more hours. This hike will reward you with some of the most spectacular panoramic vistas on the continent. You will spend quality time observing the charismatic gelada baboons (often called "bleeding-heart baboons") in their natural habitat as they feed and socialize mere feet away from you. In the afternoon, we will drive back down to the historic city of Gondar for an overnight stay.

    The Rock-Hewn Wonders of Lalibela

    In the morning, you will take a short and scenic flight from Gondar to Lalibela. In the afternoon, you will encounter one of the world's greatest architectural marvels: the first group of Lalibela's rock-hewn churches. A local guide will lead you through this incredible complex of eleven monolithic churches, carved vertically down into the pink granite rock in the 12th century. You will explore the labyrinthine tunnels and passages, visiting iconic structures like Bet Medhane Alem and the cross-shaped Bet Giyorgis (St. George's), an experience that is both humbling and awe-inspiring.

    Lalibela's Vicinity and Final Churches

    Today offers a chance to experience the authentic life and stunning scenery surrounding Lalibela. We provide multiple options for you to choose from based on your interests: you may embark on a scenic hike in the countryside, visit a local market to see daily life in action, go bird watching, or explore other sightseeing opportunities in the vicinity. In the afternoon, we will complete our pilgrimage by visiting the second group of rock-hewn churches in Lalibela, ensuring you have witnessed all of this UNESCO World Heritage Site's profound beauty and spiritual significance

    Return to Addis Ababa & Departure

    After a final breakfast in the highlands, you will be transferred to the Lalibela airport for your flight back to the capital, Addis Ababa. Depending on your international flight schedule, you may have time for some last-minute souvenir shopping or a farewell coffee ceremony before proceeding to the airport for your onward journey.
