01The Modern Iron Road – Scenic Train to Dire Dawa
Your adventure begins early at the Lebu Station in Addis Ababa, where you will board the modern, comfortable train for a breathtaking journey to Dire Dawa. As you glide across the Ethiopian landscape, watch the dramatic scenery transform from the lush Entoto Mountains, through the stunning Awash River Gorge, and into the arid, rugged beauty of the east. This is not just a transfer; it's a front-row seat to Ethiopia's diverse geography. You'll arrive in Dire Dawa in the late afternoon, filled with awe. After checking into your hotel, you'll have a relaxed evening to enjoy the unique atmosphere of this cosmopolitan city, perhaps with a stroll through its lively streets and a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

02Chat, Culture & Hyenas – The Mystique of Harar
After breakfast, a short and scenic drive will take you from Dire Dawa to the legendary walled city of Harar. En route, we will immerse you in a quintessential Eastern Ethiopian experience with visits to the famous Chat Market and Awaday, renowned for having the highest quality khat in the country. Upon arrival in Harar, you will step into another world as we enter the Jegol, the historic fortified old town and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The day is dedicated to exploration: wander through the vibrant markets, visit the insightful Harari National Museum, and step inside a traditional Harari house to admire its unique architecture and colorful interior. As dusk falls, prepare for a truly unforgettable spectacle – the nightly Hyena Feeding ritual, where you can witness a remarkable, generations-old interaction between the "Hyena Men" and these wild animals. For a fully immersive experience, you will spend the night in a charming, traditional guesthouse located within the walls of the Jegol.

03Dire Dawa's Heritage & Return to Addis
After a final Harari breakfast, we will drive back to Dire Dawa. Before your flight, we will visit the historic Dire Dawa Railway Station (Chemin de Fer), a relic of the original Ethio-Djibouti railway. This offers a fascinating contrast to the modern train you experienced on Day 1, showcasing a century of railway history. You'll have some time for lunch and perhaps some last-minute souvenir shopping at the vibrant Kefira Market. In the afternoon, we will transfer you to the Dire Dawa Airport for your comfortable flight back to Addis Ababa, where our services will conclude, leaving you with incredible memories of ancient traditions and modern marvels.
