South & Omo Valley

Upon arrival at Arba Minch after your flight from Addis Ababa, you’ll be immediately introduced to the unique culture of the Dorze people. These skilled weavers are famous for their towering, beehive-shaped bamboo houses. You’ll visit one of their villages to learn about their traditions and way of life before settling into your hotel for the night in Arba Minch.

This day starts with an exciting natural excursion: a boat trip on Lake Chamo. Here, you’ll search for massive Nile crocodiles, pods of hippos, and a variety of aquatic birds. Following this, you’ll delve back into cultural exploration with a visit to a Konso village. The Konso’s terraced landscape and traditional settlements are designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. After soaking in the history and agriculture of the Konso, you’ll drive southwest to Turmi for your overnight stay, positioning you at the heart of the Omo Valley.

This day is dedicated to an immersive exploration of the diverse ethnic groups of the Omo Valley. You’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with several distinct communities, including the Karo, known for their elaborate body painting; the Dasenach (or Geleb), who live near the Omo River delta; the semi-nomadic Hamer (or Hamar), famous for their bull-jumping ceremony; and the Nyangatom, cattle herders who often wear intricate beaded jewelry. You’ll return to Turmi for your second overnight stay.

The final day involves a scenic drive from Turmi to Jinka. After a final look at the Omo Valley landscapes, you’ll transfer to the Jinka airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa, concluding this fascinating cultural and natural expedition.
