Wonchi Excursion

Our adventure begins as we pick you up from your accommodation in Addis Ababa. The drive to Wonchi is part of the experience, offering stunning views of the Ethiopian countryside. We will make stops along the way, allowing you to observe and engage with the daily routines of local communities, from tending vast farmlands to traditional beekeeping. Upon arrival at the crater rim, you will be greeted with a breathtaking panoramic view. We will enjoy a welcome lunch with this incredible backdrop. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the crater’s edges on foot. We will embark on a guided hike along the well-marked trails, leading us to spectacular viewpoints, hidden waterfalls, and natural hot springs. As evening falls, we will gather around a cozy campfire, sharing stories and enjoying the crisp highland air before retiring for the night.

Wake up to the serene morning light over the crater lake. After breakfast, we descend from the rim towards the lakeshore. You will have the choice to either hike down or experience the local way of travel through a traditional horseback ride. At the water’s edge, we will board a tranquil boat for a peaceful trip across the deep blue waters to the ancient monastery located on a small island. After exploring this historic site and taking in the profound tranquility, we will begin our journey back to the crater rim. We will enjoy a final lunch with a view before packing up and driving back to Addis Ababa, filled with memories of a true highland escape.
